  • Did you see that article on MSNBC about living longer?

“While the quest for the proverbial Fountain of Youth is endless and typically fruitless, one method known to extend the human lifespan by up to five years has quietly become accepted among leading researchers. The formula is simple: Eat less. It could add years to your life, several experts now say. And done in moderation, it could at least help you live a more healthy life.”

  • It is easier to stick with a nutrition plan when eating out of your own kitchen, than to choose from restaurant menus when on a long trip away from home, either on vacation or for business.

Nutrition plans are most important for diabetics, the obese and those recovering from high blood pressure. People recovering from long spells of illness and those advised to put on weight need to eat and drink to a plan as well. But also those who want to lose Gourmet foodweight or get fit have diet requirements that are harder to follow when away from home. Most people are quick to start counting their blessings of the safety of home, where it is easier to keep tabs on calories and recommended daily intakes, when left to fend on their own in a strange place! The joys of a fine meal from an entirely new selection of foods can quickly turn in to a nightmare, as the number of days away from the comforting security of home food and the set diet plans grow. Having to choose meals from lavish buffet tables, or from menus which are not in English, can totally destroy a nutrition plan beyond repair!

  • Maintaining a strong immunity level built up through proper nutrients can contribute greatly to keeping you out of the doctor’s office, while people with low immunity levels tend to contract many illnesses and often suffer for a longer duration than healthy individuals.

A study done in 2005 showed more than 187 million consumers depended on daily dietary supplements to provide the nutrients omitted from their daily diet… nutrients that are needed by the body to attain and maintain optimum health.

In the U.S, the DSEA (Dietary Supplement Education Alliance) found in a recent study that certain dietary supplements helped seniors to live longer and to live more independent lives. Further evidence of dietary supplement benefits are acknowledged by the DSIB (Dietary Supplement Information Bureau) who also reported that nutritional supplements help people live longer, healthier lives.

Dietary supplements can also help reduce healthcare costs in the billions of dollars by off-setting healthcare expenses through better health attained and maintained by receiving proper nutrients that are needed in the body. Qualified health claims are now being released to the public for dietary supplements. Preventive self care seems to be more widely accepted and practiced as healthcare costs and health insurance skyrocket. The U.S.Dept of Food and Drug Administration recently issued a health claim regarding omega-3 fatty acids. Several other dietary supplements are scheduled to also be recommended in the near future.

Most people can benefit from the use of dietary supplements. The following dietary supplements may be of value to the immune system:

Remember… You still have to eat healthy. Get as many vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and fatty acids in your diet as is possible. But, you can also consider taking a dietary supplement to make-up for what is lacking. With soil depletion and other environmental deficiencies so prevalent, taking dietary supplements is a good way to make sure that you get all the nutrition that you may need.

    • Vitamin C provides antioxidant to cells, it may reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and also some forms of cancer.
    • Vitamin E may reduce free radical damage and also may cut the risk of cancer, and diabetes.
    • Vitamin A helps support the skin, as well as mucous membranes.
    • Selenium is known as an anti-aging nutrient and may help protect against prostate cancer.
    • Coenzyme Q10 may help generate energy for metabolism.
    • Omega-3 fatty acids benefit the nervous system and the heart.

People that use dietary supplements can save themselves money, save the healthcare system money, and in general have a more healthy and productive life.
