Making Food Choices
I really hate using the word diet! it is a word that usually has a negative meaning in most people as it is mostly used for eating plans that are based on having a lot less food to achieve a temporary weight loss. So we will call this a good eating plan instead, after all, you have to eat to lose weight no matter what anyone say’s to the contrary.
So, our good eating plan starts with choices. You always have the options of eating healthy food or eating
junky food, this is YOUR choice. No-one can stand there and say “you have to eat this fat laden, greasy, calorie overloaded hamburger, you are the one who choses to eat it.Your food choices for losing weight and being healthy should include good, quality, healthy foods, such as wholemeal breads and grains, plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, low fat dairy products and small portions of lean meat.
I hate it when I go to a resturant and they serve a huge plate of steak or other meat, with heaps of chip or fries, and a small amount of vegetables or salad that is more like an afterthought than anything you would want to eat.
Whenever there are choices such as having an entree size for a main meal, or having vegetables instead of salad and fries, you should choose to take them. If there is a small but top quality steak, rather that a large fatty one, chose the smaller one and enjoy the quality.
Food should be about quality rather than quantity, you do not need to stuff yourself full at every meal to enjoy your food, it is much better to savour good, healthy food that fill up on rubbish. Your taste and stomach are trainable, you just need to be firm with them and they will reward you by adapting to a more sensible eating approach.
Eating more meals of smaller quantity throughout the day is much more beneficial to your weight loss goals and h
ealth than eating nothing all day then gorging on a main meal at night.Have you ever watched the really trim healthy people? They seem to almost graze through the day and very rarely do you see them sit down to a huge meal.
The body prefers this and will give you more energy while you lose weight with this approach. Just think about what you are eating and ask yourself whether it will be used through the day for energy, or if it is going straight to your hips and thighs for “later”.
