When I was a young man…… lol.
Don’t you love that statement. I am not exactly old at 41 years of age, but I find it quite interesting how much the body changes through life and how easy it is to “let yourself go”.
Seriously though, when I was in my teens, I could eat anything and it would just burn off with no effort at all. Then, when I hit my 20s, my metabolism slowed a bit and I went from 80kg to 105kg in a matter of 2 years. I then took up weight training and really enjoyed the way I both looked and felt. My weight went to 119kg at my peak of fitness with my body fat down into the high single figures (9% from memory).
In my thirties I slowed down, pressures of work and home stopped me from concentrating on weight training and apart from my walking around at work, my exercise became almost non-existant. Surprisingly though, my weight settled down at around 110kg for about 4 years and I can only put that down to working nightshift and stress.
Now I am in my early 40s. We went to QLD (another state) for around 6 months late last year and got into some really bad eating habits, still without regular exercise. My weight began going up again until it got to where I am now, 123kg.
This is the heaviest I have ever been, and from my initial gym assessment, I have found out that my body fat level is now around 38%. Not a good thing when my family has a history of heart disease.
So, I have joined the gym, done my initial assessment and am now just waiting for the trainer there to come up with a program for me. First up I want to drop some body fat, then I figure I will see how I go with a weight training schedule to get some quality muscle back.
I have not forgotten the pictures I promised to put on, just have not had time to take them as yet, will do by the end of the week.
I will share what I do and use in this journey, and possibly my wife will also share her journey back into fitness.
